Empty streets and botanic garden

Hi everyone! The Easter long weekend is soon over and I must admit, I’m not feeling 100% about waking up at 5:30am tomorrow to go to work. However, this work week is just four days long and on Wednesday, I’m going to do a ceramic class with my friend Merrille. I’m so excited and hope I’ll bring something home that can actually be displayed and used.
When Jarryd had a look at his step counter app, he noticed we had only done 2000 steps for the whole day. We were not satisfied with our performance and decided to put our shoes and rain jackets on and head out for a stroll in the city to increase those steps.
The rain had stopped for a little while, but signs of the earlier rains could be seen everywhere.
A usually busy street was very empty on this Easter Sunday. I guess many people had swapped Brisbane city for camping or a weekend by the beach.
But that was only appreciated because Jarryd could teach me how to properly use the phone camera without herds of people around.
We found some cool lights!
This morning Jarryd and I went to the Mt Coot-Tha Botanic Gardens with Merrille and Phil for a Sunday (officially Monday) morning stroll. We had some breaky and met some feathery friends.
Now it’s almost 3:30pm and I’m going to take down my home office because it’s time to move back to the “normal” office tomorrow morning. Jarryd is cooking a Greek feast tonight and the chicken is currently marinating. We’ll continue and watch last episode of Formula 1. I really, really hate cards, but I really like this show. Hope you all have an amazing end of your Easter break and stay safe!

The days before lockdown

It is time. A second lockdown for us in Brisbane. It’ll start in 3.5 hours and hopefully finish on Monday at 6pm. But I’m not bitter. The weather is bad and neither Jarryd or I had any major plans this weekend. This will be my last chance to really relax before I start working on Monday. However, I managed to run around the city and enjoy my break the last couple of days. This is what I have been up to!
I made a visit to South Bank. It was hot hot hot, but the gardens looked really good.

Hi little duck

Beautiful sunflowers.
Hi again River Quay Green. This is where I did an Amazing Race with work a couple of weeks ago.
After South Bank, I crossed the river and made it to the QUT Art Gallery where you can see the Miffy & Friends exhibition.
I also made a visit to the botanic gardens. It was too hot for both people and ducks.
This fella was really enjoying the heat though.
Both the ducks and I thought it was time to avoid the sun for a while. I strolled through the city to King George Square.
Hello from King George Square. I took a quick photo and quickly made my way to the City Hall (and air con).
I was going to visit Brisbane Museum on level 3. But first I was admiring the City Hall entrance.
I wish the elevator in my apartment building looked like this (and smelt as fresh).
Some photos from the Bauhaus exhibition. Really enjoyed it!
I made it back home to South Brisbane after a sweaty walk through the CBD. We had rice paper rolls for dinner which included shrimps, avocado, veggies and a lot of coriander. Yummy!
I finally got my thumb out and had a haircut. I decided to go for curtain bangs and I’m really happy with the results. It needs some more maintenance, but thanks to lockdown I have the time to learn how to get the bangs right with my straighter. Winning in life!
Today when I found out about the lockdown, I did the mandatory lockdown shopping. Since our fridge died yesterday and our new one won’t show up until maybe Saturday or Sunday, we’ll need to use our esky for all veggies and margarine. Not the best timing for the fridge to give up… But we’ll survive with all the pasta and pesto stashed away in our cupboard. It was crazy busy at the supermarket. I’m so happy I’m still on holiday so I could go shopping early this morning. After spending way too long time at Coles in various queues, I made a final stop at Three Monkeys.
I had my favourite Spanish Breakfast. YYYYYYUMMY! We’re doing a full on vegan weekend so this was the last chance to have a little bit of meat.
2.5 hours left until lockdown and I’m having a Tiger lager while writing this post. The rain has stopped for a moment and I can hear that it’s already a lot quieter than usual outside. Hope everyone is having a great start of the weekend, and please stay safe!
