On the second day in Uganda it was time for chimpanzee trekking in Kibale! I was excited and ready, but needed to do some photography practise before heading off to the jungle. My models were the beautiful sunrise, flowers and wrinkly passion fruits. We drove to the jungle station after breakfast around 10am, and luckily it was just my sister and I doing the trekking that time that day. A local ranger was our guide and showed us the way through the forest to find the chimpanzee family.
It took us approximately one hour to find the chimpanzee family. We followed them for quite a while and managed to see mothers with babies and older males. They were constantly on the move and did not really mind us humans since they are habituated. It was amazing to see the cimpanzees so close in their natural habitat and I am really happy there are people dedicating their lives for these animals.
The trekking took around 3 hours and most of the walk was off track which means good boots and clothes are definitely needed. If you ever visit Kibale, make sure to visit the chimpanzees as well!
