Broken pigeon, Valentines day & February vibes

February – the last breath of Australian summer. Soon we’re saying hello to March, autumn, colder weather, Easter, European spring, warmer shirts, camping season and my one year anniversary at work. However, we still have one week left of February to look forward to.
This February has been a bit uninspiring, tiring and stressful unfortunately, but I have some photos to sum up what has been happening the last couple of weeks.
We bought new sugar cane palm trees for our balcony. They are constantly battling the strong winds, but I hope they’ll survive. If they won’t make it, I’m not sure what will be able to live on the balcony? Jarryd is sitting in his favourite spot and keeping the palm trees company while they’re are settling in at their new home.
The indoor plants creating cool shadow patterns in the bedroom.
Eating nuts, bananas and Filmjölk for breakfast. Breakfast before 9am is my least favourite meal of the day. One thing I always find easy to eat even early in the morning is the photo above.
However, I never say no to toast with a poached egg and homemade tomato relish after 9am.
We celebrated our friend Ben’s birthday at Rico Restaurant on Eagle Street Pier. We had paella and churros (not at the same time) and it was such a great evening. Story Bridge was extra Swedish that night as well.
Trying to do my weekend strolls despite the disgustingly hot weather. I’m so looking forward to winter…
I’m usually walking around the cultural centre. There are so many beautiful things to look at.
I always stop by the fountain to take some snapshots.
The apartment has been looking as usual, just a little bit dirtier. It feels like I have spent too many hours inside, but at the same time I feel that I’m never home? Maybe I need one day of quality time at home not doing any chores. Instead I’ll just be.
It may be very warm, but the afternoon sun makes the apartment look so cosy. After living in a dark Queenslander for two years, I do really appreciate all the light we finally get at our place.
We had Lukas and Heather over for a game night. We played Lords of Waterdeep, a nerdy but super fun board game. But first, food! We had platters with various snacks. My favourite was the truffle cambembert and the spicy chorizo.
Speaking of food, we are trying to stick to a fortnightly food budget. Because of many splurge expenses the last weeks, we needed to be cautious not spending too much money on food. We are always making dinner enough for two means the same day and leftovers for lunch. I made some oven baked veggies to cut down the food costs!
We also had this fella staying with us for one night. He was probably attacked and crashed into our window. He had a good night’s sleep in the flower pot and left us early in the morning the day after. Once we actually saw a crow “throwing” a pigeon under a car on the highway. It’s not easy to be a pigeon, so we wanted to make sure he had a good relaxing time.
Then it was finally time for Valentine’s Day! After a very long discussion trying to figure out what we wanted to do, Jarryd came up with the brilliant idea to go to Netherworld. We started our date with a game of Carcassone. I won!
Then we played Mario Kart, and Jarryd won big times (as usual)!
We tried the Star Wars pinball game – none of us were close to winning…
Even though it’s already the last week of February, I still have so many things to do. A lot of stuff is happening at work, I have one birthday party to attend and we are going camping. Hope you all have a great week!
